Newsletter and Homework for Room 105
August 14, 2006
Things have been busy in Room 105, and we’re off to a great start in first grade! We are working on learning everyone’s names and getting to know each other. Building a sense of community within our classroom is a priority during the first few days along with learning the rules, routines and procedures.
I’m very excited about the number of parents who want to volunteer in our classroom. You will hear from me next week about getting started. Thanks so much! Also, thanks for completing the paperwork sent home and returning it to school promptly.
Here’s a few reminders to keep Room 105 running smoothly:
Don’t forget to check your child’s TRAIN book every day! Things that are in the left pocket of the green folder need to be taken out every day.
The behavior sheet needs to be initialed by a parent EVERYDAY! If your child is on caution, that is not a bad thing. It’s just a warning! Most children will be on caution at some time during the first few days of school. If he’s getting on caution everyday; however, that may indicate a problem. Leave the behavior sheet in its pocket. We will remove those at school on Monday and put a new one in.
Graded papers will begin coming home next Monday.
Remember, no red or purple drinks are allowed at TES.
Athletic shoes are required for P.E. Your child will have time to change shoes before P.E. if he wears another kind of shoes.
If your child will go home a different way, please send a note. I will not send children to a different area without a note from the parent.
Our P.E. time is 1:30-2:00 if you should need to call or schedule a conference. You will not be able to reach me on Wednesday during that time because I will be in a meeting.
Monday-Practice reading your instant words. Write each word three times. As we are learning to read these words, we are also going to learn to spell them.
Tuesday-Math 2: When you are finished with this sheet, have your parent initial it at the top. Then put it in the right pocket of your green folder in your TRAIN book. We will do this each night.
Work on reading and spelling your instant words. Also on the other side of your instant words are phrases and sentences. Practice reading these smoothly to make it sound like you are talking.
Wednesday-Math 3
Work on reading and spelling your instant words. Also, read the phrases and sentences.
Thursday-Math 4
Last night to study your instant words and phrases and sentences! We will have an assessment tomorrow.
